Carolina Blue has many qualities that make them unique. The basis of their success lies in old-fashioned hard work. All four band members pull together their creative ideas to form their own variety of bluegrass music. Every member takes a turn singing lead and showing their abilities. Their live shows include a lot of dynamic bluegrass that has evolved with the genuine bluegrass dream. Carolina Blue is made up of Bobby Powell (guitar), Tim Jones (mandolin), Don Austin (banjo), and Reese Combs (bass).Each of these men are natives to the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.
Bobby Powell and Tim Jones met as children, singing at radio stations and churches with the gospel group, The Spiritual Lights. They have since then found a common ground with gospel and bluegrass music.
Bobby and Tim started performing with Roy Chapman and The True Bluegrass where they came in contact with Don Austin.
As Carolina Blue began to come into the making, one phone call from Bobby to Reese was all it took to make the band complete. Reese, being very familiar with traditional bluegrass, jumped at the opportunity to join the band.
